About Ian Williams

Mr. Williams is principal consultant for Identity Systems Group (ISG) in the Americas. Serving many years as an American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrator (AAMVA) industry advisor, in 2003 he was awarded the Canadian Council of Motor Vehicle Administrators (CCMTA) member of the year by provincial and territorial governments for contributions to the organization in the areas of improved driver licence security and privacy enabling approaches.

Mr. Williams works as an advisor for governments who provide driver licence services. He has contributed to the development of recent driver licence systems in British Columbia, Alberta, Virginia, Minnesota and several other AAMVA jurisdictions. Williams led the four Atlantic Provinces to develop a new common driver licence platform for Nova Scotia, Newfoundland & Labrador, New Brunswick and PEI. Recently Williams completed a 3 year assignment to replace enrollment and issuance systems for the 7 million Ontario Driver Licence and Health Cards issued annually.

Federally, Williams has provided assistance and expertise to Citizenship & Immigration Canada, the US Dept. of Treasury, the US Dept. of State and the Department of Homeland Security.

Currently, Williams is assisting state & provincial government jurisdictions develop secure balanced DL/ID systems while navigating the myriad of requirements through WHTI, EDL and REAL ID.

Williams is a former employee of McDonnell Douglas and Datacard Group. Prior to ISG he worked on passport and national ID systems globally as a systems architect and development advisor.

An advocate of dignified secure human identification, and privacy enhancing approaches, articles relating to Mr. Williams views on secure identification and biometrics have appeared in Business Week, Interactive Week, Biometric Digest, Biometric Technology Today and many other trade and industry publications.
