(Dec.5, 2003) Identity Systems Group. (ISG), an independent consultant firm specializing in government identification, has been retained by the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA) to provide expertise in the field of biometric technology.

Biometric technology uses unique human physical or behavioral attributes to assist in helping assure identity. Biometric methods include speech, facial & Iris recognition. The improvement in identifying holders of driver licenses is sought to help reduce the number of dangerous drivers and repeat offenders who obtain a replacement license under false pretenses, and to safeguard legitimate identities from the rising issue of identity theft. Improvements to the identification process is also expected to help prevent unauthorized access to driver license and provincial identification cards.

ISG will provide CCMTA Board of Directors and membership with guidance and specialized knowledge in evaluating the benefit of biometric technology in the areas of provincial identification and driver Licensing.

The Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA) is a non-profit organization comprising representatives of the provincial, territorial and federal governments of Canada, which, through the collective consultative process, makes decisions on administration and operational matters dealing with licensing, identification, registration and control of motor vehicle transportation and highway safety.
